So we got a wild idea. What about lasers? Lasers are cool and space stations totally need lasers! So we got to work.
First version uses just a red glowing stick that damages the player on overlap. This is really not ideal since it would go through everything and anything in the path. But it worked as a proof of concept
We actually took this idea further to see how "fun" it would be to play with. But at the end of the day this is still just a red stick on a moving platform. technically this could work but its hard to make it function the way we wanted. So testing started on a linetraced laser thats fully interractive.
This was also good time to try to learn bit of the Niagara particle system that unreal engine has.
At this point it was almost fully functional laser, but was it pretty looking? This kinda effect would really stand out in our game as it is.
Did someone say physics based particle system?
Now the laser is mostly finished, with a little bit of polish and sound added this is gonna be really fun addition to our game!
